Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

September 1, 2012 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Konami has shown off the goods and the latest edition of Metal Gear “Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeros”, looks stunning. The game is set to be an open world experience but you will remain in stealth. Snake is back and in the demo shown by Konami, he is infiltrating a U.S prison in Cuba. Game designer Hideo Kojima mentions that this release is a prologue and not Metal Gear Solid 5. The game is built around the Fox engine and from what I can see, it looks absolutely amazing. The details of the game are still very hush hush but we will be keeping up on the latest news and will post new information when it becomes available.

For now you can check out the video of the demo below.

Guild Wars 2 Stops Sales Due to High Server Load

August 30, 2012 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

ArenaNet_LogoIn a recent Facebook post, the ArenaNet team mentions that in order to prevent players from experiencing issues while playing the game, they have temporarily stopped all first-party sales of Guild Wars 2 via guildwars2.com.

However, you can still purchase boxed versions of the game and digital versions from other retail partners.

I guess that having an issue where you need to halt sales due to the immense popularity of your game isn’t such a bad thing. With game sales well over a million, the game has clearly generated a solid fan base. Once server activity is under control game sales will resume.

Magic: The Gathering

August 29, 2012 by Richard Vincenti Jr 1 Comment

I spent many years of my childhood collecting, trading and playing card games but one that sticks out the most for me is Magic: The Gathering. I remember it like it was yesterday, waiting to for the latest issue of InQuest magazine to arrive as I worked on perfecting my deck. I would read each issue at least twice and it was always close by just in case I needed it. Many hours spent playing with friends, perfecting strategies, and honing my skills.

If you have never played Magic: The Gathering and your a fan of games like this, then you should definitely check it out.Magic artwork

In Magic: The Gathering (MTG), you (the player) are a planeswalker, which is a powerful wizard who  fights other planeswalkers for glory. You fight your battles by using spells and summoning creatures.

In order to cast these spells and summon these creatures to destroy your opponent, you need to gather mana. Mana is generated through the use of Land cards. There are 5 types of  magic used in the game, White: The Color of Justice, Blue: The Color of Wisdom, Black: The Color of Ambition, Red: The Color of Chaos, and Green The Color of Nature. The type of magic you choose to play will determine the type of land you use to gain mana.

The popular card game is still very much alive today and is played both for fun and for competition. Although nothing beats the card game it self, one of my favorite ways to play is on the computer.

The latest version is Magic: The Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013. The game offers a solid tutorial that should help you get going if you’re not familiar with the game play. This edition will feature ten new decks, a new multiplayer mode named “Planechase”, and new puzzle challenges. The game contains some really nice artwork and the UI flows well. Backgrounds are made up of rich 3D environments,  and the game also features narrated storyline.

Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 is available for iPad, Xbox, PlayStation, and PC users can download the game on Steam for  $9.99 and the Special Edition is available for $19.99. More details on Magic: The Gathering the card game and the video game version  are available on the official site here.

World Of Warcraft Patch 5.0.4

August 28, 2012 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

World of Warcraft Patch 5.0.4 has gone live today and with it comes some exciting changes.World Of Warcraft Mists of Pandaria

A World Event,  Attack on Theramore Isle, will begin in the weeks leading up to the September 25th launch of Mists of Pandaria. This world event will have War-chief Garrosh launching an all out attack on Theramore Isle. It seems the Horde will gain control of this area as the Alliance will not be able to keep up.

Account Wide Achievements will also make its debut in this patch and will allow pretty much all of your achievements to be shared among your other characters.

AOE Looting will allow players to loot multiple corpses at once, all in one window. This is just one of those things that we wish we had a long time ago. Right skinners?

Cross Realm Zones will allow players to be able to group with others from different realms. This should be great if you can’t find a buddy to work with on your realm. This feature will be implemented slowly at first by only working with a few realms at a time in order to test things out.

This patch will help players get used to the new talent trees and prepare them for the events to come as Blizzard slowly transitions the current world and lore into the new patch. The changes to the talent system are pretty drastic and will have you looking around for spells and abilities that are no longer on your UI, including how your pets and mounts are displayed . This is also a really exciting time for players who have been away from the game for a while as new content and features begin to roll in.

For complete patch details head to Blizzard’s Official site here.

Guild Wars 2

August 25, 2012 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Guild Wars 2 is just around the corner for PC gamers and it looks like this is going to be a solid game. With heavy competition in the MMO world, you need something that stands out and says “I’m different!” and Guild Wars 2 could be that game. Fans of Guild Wars have been waiting for this sequel since 2007 and on 8-28-2012 they will finally get to experience the game that the 200 person team at ArenaNet have been working so hard on over the years.

Asura_Female_Guardian

Guild Wars 2 really aims to be a personalized experience for each player. The decisions you make early on will change how your story develops. You will be able to choose from eight professions and five races, including the defiant humans, the feline charr, the unearthly sylvari, the mighty norn and the ingenious asura.

Like any good MMO, you will also be able to participate in arena based PvP or player vs player combat which should make good use of the combat system that features combos, improvised tactics, and environmental weapons.

A key component in making an MMO feel like it has depth, is a large, immersive and engaging world to play in. The world of Tyria has been built to be just that.

Divinitys_Reach

A familiar sight in MMO’s are the NPC’s or non playable characters. NPC’s normally wait for you to run up to them before they will give you a specific quest to complete, in GW2 you will walk into a world where the NPC’s are not static but moving around and interacting with the world. You may see something bad that’s about to happen to a NPC and then you can jump in and save them which will trigger a specific series of events, or maybe you don’t save them and a different event triggers.

The world around you is built to feel alive, not static, and the choices you make have real impact. These events are called dynamic events, and you can group up with others to take on world challenges. These challenges increase in difficulty the larger your group becomes and the experience you gain will benefit everyone participating.

What makes Guild Wars 2 even more appealing to try is that it’s Free to play, just simply buy the game upfront and then play online all you want. If you have an original Guild Wars account you will be able to link it to your Guild Wars 2 account.

Guild Wars 2 goes on sale 8-28-12 for $59.99, and you can find out more information about Guild Wars 2 here.
