God of War: Ascension

I have recently started getting back into God of War and I basically fell in love with the game all over again. I really enjoyed the earlier versions and even had fun playing GOW on the PSP. Now, we have a whole new story to follow as God of War: Ascension gets closer to it’s release date.

God of War: Ascension is a prequel to the the original God of War and it dives deeper into the earlier life of Kratos. Ascension is packed with new features including the ability to take weapons from enemies, enhanced graphics, time shifting mechanics and a new online multiplayer mode which will offer up four (4) different game modes. God of War: Ascension will launch March 12, 2013 and it is available for pre-order now for $59.99 for the standard edition or $79.99 for the collector’s edition.

Here’s what the collector’s edition is offering up:

  • Exclusive 8″ Kratos statue
  • Premium steelbook case
  • Official game soundtrack (digital version)
  • PS3 dynamic theme
  • PSN avatar pack
  • Multiplayer double XP unlock
  • Pass for future DLC content

PSN Maintenance Update

January 18, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

[UPDATE]

Many of us were expecting the PSN to be up sometime yesterday but it looks like things are taking a bit longer. As of this post, Sony has changed their maintenance window several times and it now looks like the Playstation Network will be down until tomorrow (January, 19th) until about 2:00am PDT (5:00am Eastern). PSNLogo

Here is what Sony posted earlier today:

“We are currently performing maintenance to upgrade the software for the PlayStation Network from January 17-19th. This maintenance is scheduled to end around 2:00am PDT (5:00am Eastern) Saturday January 19th.”

“During this maintenance period, you may receive a message that states “Sony  Entertainment Network is undergoing maintenance” when attempting to access the PlayStation Network, PlayStation Store, or PlayStation Home.”

“If you have signed in to PSN within 5 days prior to the start of maintenance (meaning: any time since January 12), you maybe able to play games online and enjoy apps such as Netflix, HULU Plus and Music Unlimited during this maintenance period.”

“Note: During our current maintenance some authenticated users may have lost access. We apologize for this inconvenience and are working hard to restore access as soon as possible.”

PSN Will Be Down For Maintenance

January 15, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Recently, Playstation.Blog put up a post mentioning that PSN will be down for about a day. There are a lot of mixed opinions about this maintenance window since it’s a pretty significant amount of time but the service is free and in order to keep things working they have to do some maintenance. Here’s the official explanation of what’s going down.

“In order to continue bringing you the best online games experience on PSN, we will perform routine maintenance beginning the morning of Thursday, January 17th. This maintenance will start at approximately 8:00AM PT (9:00AM MT / 10:00AM CT / 11:00 AM ET) and last until around 8:00PM PT (9:00PM MT / 10:00PM CT / 11:00PM ET). During the maintenance period, you may receive a maintenance notification when attempting to access PSN.”

Play PS2 XBOX and More on Your PC Monitor

January 4, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

It sounds simple enough, you want to play your Playstation 2 (PS2), XBOX, or other gaming console that uses composite video, on your computer monitor. Turns out that doing this can prove to be quite difficult, but here’s a solution.

You may start out looking for adapters on Amazon or eBay and within seconds you find tons of different adapters. Some of these adapters look like they will work just fine, RCA inputs on one side and VGA or HDMI on the other side. What’s even better is that you likely get a great deal on the adapter, perhaps it will only set you back $1.50.

Unfortunately, this will leave you without an image on your PC monitor and you will find yourself trying to figure out how to get your $1.50 back. The truth is these adapters weren’t designed to work the way you think they would. Most of these kinds of adapters were meant to work the other way around and were never intended to be used to hook a gaming console up to a PC monitor. Luckily there is a simple solution that will get you up and running quickly.

PETRH RGB to HDMI PS2 Xbox to PC monitor

You can use the PETRH RCA Component RGB YPbPr to HDMI v1.3 Video Converter or one similar to this. Not many monitors have composite video hookups so this will be very helpful as it will provide you with an HDMI connection to plug right into your monitor. This is the fastest way to get up and running without getting all caught up in the adapter game. This converter also handles audio which is a nice addition that some adapters might not have. The key to finding a working adapter in this case is one that is powered and comes with it’s own power supply.

Please note that you will also need to get a component cable for your PS2 or original Xbox as the original cable provided with these consoles only offers composite video (Red, White and Yellow). After that, the only other connection you need to make is to hook up the power supply to the converter box and you’re ready to game. Of course you don’t have to just use this converter for games, you can use it for just about anything you want to hook up that only accepts and HDMI signal. You can pick this unit up for around $25.00 on Amazon or eBay.
