Jay Wilson Moves On From Diablo III

January 17, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Jay Wilson has been Game Director for Diablo III for seven years now and has done an amazing job. However, Jay will be leaving Diablo III behind as he moves on to other projects at Blizzard Entertainment. In a post on battle.net, Jay mentions that although he will no longer be working directly on Diablo III, it doesn’t mean that Diablo will be anything less than amazing. He continued on to say that Diablo isn’t the work of just one person and the team who created Diablo III will still continue to support the game.

“I recently celebrated my seven-year anniversary working on Diablo III, and while it’s been one of the most challenging and rewarding periods of my life, I’ve reached a point creatively where I’m looking forward to working on something new. The powers that be at Blizzard have been gracious enough to give me that opportunity. Over the course of the next several weeks, I will be moving off of the Diablo III project and transitioning elsewhere within Blizzard. This decision was not an easy one for me, and not one I made quickly, but ultimately it’s what I feel is right.”

Jay Wilson is an incredibly talented man with a passion for what he does and it really shows up in his work. Like many others that work at Blizzard, Jay consistently thanks the fans for their support and in his post about leaving Diablo III, he does just that.

If you haven’t watched any of his videos about the Diablo III development process I would encourage you to check them out. You can see an interview with Jay Wilson where he is discussing a bit about Diablo here.

The original post about him leaving the Diablo III team is on battle.net and can be found here.

Baldurs Gate Screen Shot

For fans of the classic RPG, Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition is now available on Steam. If you have played the game before than you will appreciate the enhancements but if you have never played this game and you enjoy RPG’s, then I would highly recommend giving this game a shot. The storyline is engaging and the gameplay is fantastic. You can grab Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition for $19.99.

Recently, Playstation.Blog put up a post mentioning that PSN will be down for about a day. There are a lot of mixed opinions about this maintenance window since it’s a pretty significant amount of time but the service is free and in order to keep things working they have to do some maintenance. Here’s the official explanation of what’s going down.

“In order to continue bringing you the best online games experience on PSN, we will perform routine maintenance beginning the morning of Thursday, January 17th. This maintenance will start at approximately 8:00AM PT (9:00AM MT / 10:00AM CT / 11:00 AM ET) and last until around 8:00PM PT (9:00PM MT / 10:00PM CT / 11:00PM ET). During the maintenance period, you may receive a maintenance notification when attempting to access PSN.”

Internet Activist Aaron Swartz Dead at 26

January 13, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Internet activist Aaron Swartz was found dead in his apartment on Friday. A friend discovered that Aaron had  hanged himself in his apartment. Aaron Swartz was a brilliant programmer and will be remembered for all of his work. Most notably Aaron helped create RSS, a content syndication technology and he co-founded Demand Progress, a group that creates campaigns to combat issues of civil liberties, civil rights, and government reform. He played a key role in the creation of Reddit, an online news sharing site. He also fought hard against SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act).

Recently Aaron had worked his way into computer networks at MIT and  he stole millions of articles and documents from the subscription-based service called JSTOR or Journal Storage.

He intended to make the documents, which normally require a fee, available for free. If he would have been convicted he could have spent decades in jail and would have been hit with major fines.

Aaron will be remembered for his achievements and his cause. Even though he is no longer with us, he will continue to inspire.
