Buddy the Futuristic Dog Collar

by Richard Vincenti JrLeave a Comment

With wearable technology slowly working it’s way into our everyday lives, it was only a matter of time before we got man’s best friend involved. This new futuristic dog collar called Buddy, is the ultimate must-have gadget for geeky pet owners.

‘Buddy’ will keep track of just about everything you could ever want to know about your dog, starting with temperature. No longer will you have to wonder if your dog is getting too uncomfortably hot or cold, you will now know the exact temperature of your four legged friend. In the event that your dog does get to hot or cold ‘Buddy’ can actually link into your Nest thermostat to have the temperature automatically adjusted.

With Geofences, you will be able to set a perimeter that your dog is allowed to be in by simply using an app for either iOS or Android. Once your dog leaves the perimeter that you set up, you will be notified with an alert. Even better, ‘Buddy’ will include GPS tracking so you can know exactly where your dog is.

To keep your pup in top shape, the Buddy collar will also include an activity tracker to measure how much exercise your dog is getting. This feature could also benefit some owners as it will persuade us to get up and get active with our pets. Need to know how much your pet is eating? Well, it keeps track of that too. How about appointments with the veterinarian? Yes, it keeps track of this information as well.

And last but certainly not least, it’s quite stylish. The Buddy collar has customizable LED lights that can be adjusted to pretty much any color you can imagine. Plus, having a well lit Buddy collar is great for safety as it provides ample night time lighting so drivers and cyclists will not only see you, they will see your pet as well.

All of these features of course are going to come at a premium, after all this isn’t your basic everyday pet store collar here. If you back the Buddy project early you will get the collar at a discounted price of $180 US. If the collar is fully funded and released for purchase, it could set you back approximately $450.

How to View FPS in Heroes of the Storm

by Richard Vincenti Jr1 Comment

Heroes of the Storm Logo for How to Display FPS

In order to monitor your FPS, Network Spikes and GPU temperature in Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm, simply press Ctrl+Alt+F for both Mac and PC. The information will be displayed in the top left corner of the screen.

Showing the FPS, Network Spike and GPU temperature information in Heroes of the Storm can help you diagnose many issues. After certain patches you may find that your game performance isn’t quite what it used to be. Make sure you check your graphics settings closely as Blizzard has a tendency to reset everything to their default values after an update.

If you are looking for solutions to performance issues or just any other problems related to Heroes of the Storm, you can always check Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm forum for more information.

Where is the Network Utility in OS X Mavericks?

by Richard Vincenti JrLeave a Comment

 OS X Network Utility icon

In OS X the network utility has been a efficient and convenient way to perform basic tests on your network like ping , trace route, netstat, whois, finger, and port scan. The utility provides all of these tools with the benefit of having a nice graphical user interface to work with (GUI).

The Network Utility has always been included with the installation of OS X and it still is with Mavericks, but it’s no longer in your main applications folder. It has been moved to (/System/Library/CoreServices/Applications).

  • You can easily find the Network Utility in OS X Mavericks by Using Spotlight (the magnifying glass in the top right corner of the screen) and Typing “Network Utility”.

Winamp Will Soon Be Gone Forever

Classic Winamp

Oh how the memories just start to roll on in when I think about all of the great music I played with Winamp over the years, but now it’s all coming to an end as Winamp will soon shutdown forever.

I have to admit that it’s been quite a while since I last used Winamp, and that’s mostly thanks to the introduction of iTunes and Spotify, but Winamp has held on strong over the years and it’s still a great media player. Winamp had everything you could want in an mp3 player and by far it was my top choice ever since I downloaded it in the late 90’s when it was used to play an entire library of music downloaded from Napster.

Winamp was originally released in 1997 and was then bought by AOL in 1999, ever since then a steady flow of updates have continued to improve upon the original. The latest version allows you to stream music to your Android mobile device and also creates a seamless link to your iTunes library.

The good news is if you want to download Winamp you still have some time to do so. The Winamp site will officially go off-line on December 20, 2013, but until then you can still download the latest version for Mac, PC, and Android from winamp.com.

Here is the official notice that appears on the website:

Winamp.com and associated web services will no longer be available past December 20, 2013. Additionally, Winamp Media players will no longer be available for download. Please download the latest version before that date. See release notes for latest improvements to this last release.

Thanks for supporting the Winamp community for over 15 years.”

Thanks Winamp for being the perfect mp3 player for so long, we will miss you!

Apple is Ready To Build it’s Spaceship

Proposed Design for Apple’s “Spaceship” Campus 2

Apple has long since wanted to build a second campus to the east of it’s current headquarters and it has taken years just to get everything together and approved. It was back in 2006 when Steve Jobs had announced that he wanted to build another campus and now, many years later, it looks like it’s finally going to happen.

With a final agreement to pay more taxes to the city of Cupertino, Apple has now received it’s final approval to begin building the massive 2.8-million-square-foot ring shaped “spaceship” campus that will house 13,000 under some of the most cutting edge architecture imaginable today. Steve Jobs had a goal in mind when he planned to build the new campus and part of that goal included making sure that the campus had the same “fit and finish” that goes into designing Apple’s products.

The project will take years to finish as Apple hopes to complete the building in 2016.
