PSN Will Be Down For Maintenance

January 15, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Recently, Playstation.Blog put up a post mentioning that PSN will be down for about a day. There are a lot of mixed opinions about this maintenance window since it’s a pretty significant amount of time but the service is free and in order to keep things working they have to do some maintenance. Here’s the official explanation of what’s going down.

“In order to continue bringing you the best online games experience on PSN, we will perform routine maintenance beginning the morning of Thursday, January 17th. This maintenance will start at approximately 8:00AM PT (9:00AM MT / 10:00AM CT / 11:00 AM ET) and last until around 8:00PM PT (9:00PM MT / 10:00PM CT / 11:00PM ET). During the maintenance period, you may receive a maintenance notification when attempting to access PSN.”

With it’s dark look and intense storyline, the next Tomb Raider looks awesome and to make the release of the game even more exciting, you will be able to buy this new custom Tomb Raider themed controller . Looking just as gritty as the game itself, this slick controller also comes with a download code for an exclusive multiplayer character, the Scavenger Archer. It will likely go on sale around March 5th of this year, which is the release date for the game, for around $59.99.

Haven’t heard about the new Tomb Raider? Get all of the details on the official site.

Featured App: Candy Crush

January 9, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Candy Crush is a bejeweled-like game mixed with Candy Land where you have to match three or more like candies to break them away. You can get boosters by matching four or five. Four, you get a striped candy that can destroy a whole row, and five, a doughnut that will get rid of all of one color on the screen.

There are 125 levels with cute little short stories as you play through. This game is very addictive and the music is catchy. As the levels go up in number they get harder and harder to beat. You have 5 turns to lose with or else you must wait for a timer to regenerate turns. You can add friends from Facebook and ask them for help and turns. You will also need friends to help you move on to new stories. The game will prompt you that you need three friends to give you tickets to get across to the new levels.

The only thing I don’t enjoy in this game, is I feel like I am being forced to purchase (with real money) boosters for the levels. Some levels I have played numerous times and it seems impossible without them. I have not purchased anything in this game, and I have moved along slowly. Some go faster and there are ones that I am stuck on forever, but it’s just the luck of the board I guess. Either way, I still play it, and it’s still pretty fun.

Nvidia Unveils Project Shield

January 6, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Nvidia Shield Onstage

Nvidia has unveiled Project Shield which is a handheld gaming device that runs on the new Tegra 4 processor along with the Android OS. The new gaming device will allow you to play games directly on the device itself or by using it as a controller to remotely control your PC games using Steam.

Nvidia has mentioned that the handheld device will take advantage of Nvidia’s new GRID technology, which is an advanced cloud gaming system. Imagine how Netflix works but with games instead. I wrote an article earlier last year talking about GRID. I am really exited about the direction that gaming is heading and I think we’re in for a big year for gaming.
