jOBS Gets Criticism From Wozniak

January 25, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

The latest scene from the new movie about Steve Jobs, jOBS, is now making it’s way around the web and as interesting as it is, Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, says it’s totally wrong. In a conversation with Gizmodo, Woz goes on to mention that the scene we see here in the clip above, never even happened and that the personalities are way off.

He continued on in an email to say this:

“Totally wrong. Personalities and where the ideas of computers affecting society did not come from Jobs. They inspired me and were widely spoken at the Homebrew Computer Club. Steve came back from Oregon and came to a club meeting and didn’t start talking about this great social impact. His idea was to make a $20 PC board and sell it for $40 to help people at the club build the computer I’d given away. Steve came from selling surplus parts at HalTed he always saw a way to make a quick buck off my designs (this was the 5th time).

The lofty talk came much further down the line.

I never looked like a professional. We were both kids. Our relationship was so different than what was portrayed. I’m embarrassed but if the movie is fun and entertaining, all the better. Anyone who reads my book iWoz can get a clearer picture.”

It’s no surprise that hollywood got the details wrong and often they change things up to make something work on film a little better, but this is just a little silly. You want to be in the ballpark not out in the parking lot when it comes to bringing a true story to life. It makes you wonder why they didn’t utilize a bit of consultation before solidifying the script. Just getting the clothing right would have been nice.

With all of that being said, I don’t want to completely trash a film that I have only seen one clip of. It’s nice to see that a story like this is being brought to hollywood, despite it’s flaws. Not only is this story interesting but it’s inspiring and that’s something a lot of today’s films just don’t offer. Although I can’t help but see Ashton as Kelso at times, he does seem to pull off the look of Steve Jobs in the early days pretty well. Despite Wozniak’s comments I would still like to watch the film in it’s entirety.

Massive Iceberg Breaks Off, Largest Caught on Video

December 13, 2012 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

An absolutely massive iceberg almost two miles wide breaks off from a glacier and it’s all caught on video. This is the largest glacial break off ever recorded on video and it’s a stunning site. It’s almost difficult to put the size of these ice chunks into perspective, the filmmakers mention it would be like watching the buildings in Manhattan just fall apart and then hit the ground.

This break up occurred on the Ilulissat glacier in Greenland and was being filmed as part of Chasing Ice, a film that’s trying to convey the reality of climate change to the masses by bringing us up close and personal with areas of the world where climate change is having a dramatic effect. There’s no doubt that our climate is changing but many debate the reasons why. Some believe humans are the root cause while others believe it’s part of a natural cycle that we have yet to understand.

Star Trek Into Darkness

Wow, is the first word that came to mind when I saw the teaser for the new Star Trek movie, Star Trek Into Darkness which will hit theaters on 5/17/13. The look and feel of this movie looks intense and very serious. I am definitely excited about this film and if you’re a fan of Benedict Cumberbatch, who stars in Sherlock Holmes, then you’re in luck as he has made his way into the next chapter of the Star Trek universe. Check out the exclusive teaser trailer below!

George Lucas Sells Lucasfilm to Disney

October 30, 2012 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Disney has purchased Lucasfilm, which is owned entirely by George Lucas himself, for $4.05 Billion. Lucas will receive approximately half of that amount in cash and half in Disney shares. Disney will completely take over Lucasfilm Ltd., LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, and Skywalker Sound, and yes that means the Star Wars franchise as well. Lucas mentions that he feels it’s time to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers and that a large corporation like Disney will help protect Lucasfilm.Lucasfilm Logo

Disney has already made plans to continue the Star Wars franchise by creating another installment with George offering a few tips here and there but not taking any major role in the film making process at all. The new installment will be Star Wars Episode 7 and is scheduled to be released in 2015. It is important to note that Disney has been very successful in working with Marvel and Pixar, so this whole deal seems a little less scary when you take into consideration the talent that Disney has.

Many may be delighted to see George Lucas finally hand over the reins to someone else, while purists may find the move a bit upsetting. I remain skeptical but optimistic and as always the proof is in the pudding. The fact is that the deal is done and work is already underway. We will just have to see what they come up with, but again considering Disney’s ability to not only turn film into gold but create quality films, I think this may be the best possible way to move all of Lucas’ creativity forward.
