Carrie Fisher Takes Back Confirmation of Role

March 6, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Leia

It appears that Carrie Fisher is now taking back the confirmation that she will be in the next Star Wars film. A representative on behalf of Fisher apparently told CNN that she was “joking” around and that, “Nothing has been announced.”.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that it won’t happen but it’s definitely not official. I guess we will have to just wait until we get some more information from Disney.

Earth Gets A View of a Comet

March 5, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Comet Dates
Source: Science @ NASA

The comet Pan-STARRS, which was discovered in 2011, is making it’s way thorough our solar system and on March 5th, it made it’s closest approach to Earth at 100 million miles away.

Although the comet is no longer at it’s closest point to our planet, it’s getting closer to the Sun and we should all hopefully see a nice show as it continues to brighten in the sky. Pan-STARRS will be closest to the Sun on Sunday, March 10th and at that point is should be very bright.

Until recently, only people who live in the southern hemisphere were able to see the comet at all, but that will change at those of us in the northern hemisphere will begin to see the comet on March 7th. It will appear on the west-southwest horizon shortly after sunset.

This won’t be our only comet this year as comet ISON will be making an appearance in November and should be much, much brighter that Pan-STARRS.

The New Tomb Raider is Here

March 4, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

We have adventured with Lara Croft many times before but this game just looks like a completely different animal. The developers have really changed the look and feel of the game and not to mention Lara herself. It looks dark and gritty and personally I love it.

The team at Crystal Dynamics haven’t just made visual changes to the game but have also fundamentally changed up the gameplay. They really tried to convey the struggle that Lara is going through during her perilous journey and by the looks of it, it has paid off. Your not marching around the game with some bullet proof character, Lara is human after all and her reactions to the world around her are in line with what you would expect to see from someone in real life.

Armed with only the raw instincts and physical ability to push beyond the limits of human endurance, TOMB RAIDER promises to deliver an intense and gritty story into the origins of Lara Croft and her ascent from a frightened young woman to a hardened survivor.

Lara Croft is a video game legend and changing up her appearance is risky and some purists may disagree, but I feel that they have made the right call and went with a good character design. Tomb Raider will be available on March 5th 2013 for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC. For complete details head to the official Tomb Raider page.

Get Your Apple ][ Fix Without the Hardware

March 3, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

OregonTrailSS

The Apple ][ and the the Apple IIgs were great machines and can spark up some serious nostalgia. The only issue is that today, they are a bit hard to find. Let’s not forget to mention that you will probably have to drop some decent cash to get one that’s in good shape as well.

There’s no need to worry though, there’s still a way you can play almost every Apple ][ and Apple IIgs game ever made and it’s in your browser. Yep, the awesome people at VirtualApple have made it so simple to load up any of your favorite games in seconds. It even makes the old drive seek sound when the emulation starts!

One game that I couldn’t resist loading up right away was Oregon Trail. This game was one of my favorites growing up and now I don’t have to buy old Apple hardware to enjoy it. Even if you have never used an Apple ][ or IIgs, I highly recommend you check out the emulator and the games they are offering. It’s interesting to look at older games and see how much things have changed, it really puts things into perspective. Besides it can definitely help cure some boredom.

All you need to do is download a simple plugin that’s compatible with most versions of Windows and Mac OS X and most web browsers.

How To Fix Windows XP Blue Screen During Install

March 2, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

BlueScreenErrorIllustration

If you’re trying to install the mighty Windows XP onto your machine and you keep getting a blue screen with an error message on it, then we might just have the fix for you.

This blue screen error message usually occurs just after the Windows XP setup process finishes loading up and says “Starting Windows”.  If your PC utilizes SATA drives then what’s most likely causing the problem is a compatibility issue which can be remedied with a simple setting change in your PC’s BIOS.

  • Boot up your machine and immediately enter the BIOS. This is usually done by pressing a specific key just as your machine turns on (i.e. F2 or DEL).
  • Once in the BIOS Locate your configuration settings for your SATA (Serial ATA) connections.
  • Switch the option for all applicable drives (usually requires all of them) to IDE or “Compatibility” Mode. These are usually set to “AHCI” by default.
  • Reboot and attempt to run the install again.

Hopefully, your blue screen issue will be resolved! If not, you may have other hardware issues preventing the installation from continuing but most likely the issue is with your SATA drives.
