Winamp Will Soon Be Gone Forever

November 21, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr 1 Comment

Classic Winamp

Oh how the memories just start to roll on in when I think about all of the great music I played with Winamp over the years, but now it’s all coming to an end as Winamp will soon shutdown forever.

I have to admit that it’s been quite a while since I last used Winamp, and that’s mostly thanks to the introduction of iTunes and Spotify, but Winamp has held on strong over the years and it’s still a great media player. Winamp had everything you could want in an mp3 player and by far it was my top choice ever since I downloaded it in the late 90’s when it was used to play an entire library of music downloaded from Napster.

Winamp was originally released in 1997 and was then bought by AOL in 1999, ever since then a steady flow of updates have continued to improve upon the original. The latest version allows you to stream music to your Android mobile device and also creates a seamless link to your iTunes library.

The good news is if you want to download Winamp you still have some time to do so. The Winamp site will officially go off-line on December 20, 2013, but until then you can still download the latest version for Mac, PC, and Android from winamp.com.

Here is the official notice that appears on the website:

Winamp.com and associated web services will no longer be available past December 20, 2013. Additionally, Winamp Media players will no longer be available for download. Please download the latest version before that date. See release notes for latest improvements to this last release.

Thanks for supporting the Winamp community for over 15 years.”

Thanks Winamp for being the perfect mp3 player for so long, we will miss you!

Parents Angry Over the SNES in Old News Video

November 20, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

This video is from a news broadcast in 1991 that shows parents getting upset over the release of the Super Nintendo. Many parents at that time thought that Nintendo was trying to brainwash their children by making them think they couldn’t live without the far superior SNES, while many parents believed the upgrade to be trivial. The content seems laughable now, especially since rate of obsolesce has increased tenfold in many other devices.

Ever since video games became popular they have been under criticism for everything, including the content that they contain, the amount of time people spend playing them and how much money we dish out for them. In the 80’s and 90’s when Nintendo and Sega dominated the video game market and created a console boom, there was real concern among some parents that video games would have a large negative impact on the lives of their children and that they would fall prey to corporate schemes. Obviously, video games are just good fun and most of us from that generation have likely turned out to be just fine, of course that’s all a matter of opinion I suppose.

Apple is Ready To Build it’s Spaceship

Proposed Design for Apple’s “Spaceship” Campus 2

Apple has long since wanted to build a second campus to the east of it’s current headquarters and it has taken years just to get everything together and approved. It was back in 2006 when Steve Jobs had announced that he wanted to build another campus and now, many years later, it looks like it’s finally going to happen.

With a final agreement to pay more taxes to the city of Cupertino, Apple has now received it’s final approval to begin building the massive 2.8-million-square-foot ring shaped “spaceship” campus that will house 13,000 under some of the most cutting edge architecture imaginable today. Steve Jobs had a goal in mind when he planned to build the new campus and part of that goal included making sure that the campus had the same “fit and finish” that goes into designing Apple’s products.

The project will take years to finish as Apple hopes to complete the building in 2016.

LeVar Burton Explains NASA’s Martian MAVEN Mission

November 18, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

In this cool NASA Public Service Announcement, LeVar Burton tells us all about MAVEN’s mission and explains why it’s important.  On November 18th, NASA has had a successful launch of MAVEN, the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution mission. The Atlas V rocket lifted off at approximately 1:30 P.M EST and is now on it’s way towards Mars to hopefully allow us to better understand why Mars has become so inhospitable and to possibly help us better understand our climate here on Earth.

We’re currently about 14,000 miles away from Earth and heading out to the Red Planet right now,” – MAVEN Project Manager David Mitchell-

NASA is trying to understand why most of the Martian atmosphere has disappeared and just how it lost all of it’s liquid water. Perhaps we can even answer the question we have all been really wanting to know, was there ever life on Mars? The only way to find out is to keep on studying our neighboring planet and to continue to dig deeper into the past of the great red planet.
