Parents Angry Over the SNES in Old News Video

by Richard Vincenti JrLeave a Comment

This video is from a news broadcast in 1991 that shows parents getting upset over the release of the Super Nintendo. Many parents at that time thought that Nintendo was trying to brainwash their children by making them think they couldn’t live without the far superior SNES, while many parents believed the upgrade to be trivial. The content seems laughable now, especially since rate of obsolesce has increased tenfold in many other devices.

Ever since video games became popular they have been under criticism for everything, including the content that they contain, the amount of time people spend playing them and how much money we dish out for them. In the 80’s and 90’s when Nintendo and Sega dominated the video game market and created a console boom, there was real concern among some parents that video games would have a large negative impact on the lives of their children and that they would fall prey to corporate schemes. Obviously, video games are just good fun and most of us from that generation have likely turned out to be just fine, of course that’s all a matter of opinion I suppose.

The Legend of Zelda Now Available in Nintendo Wii U eShop

NESZelda

The Legend of Zelda from NES is now available for download in the Nintendo Wii U eShop.

The Wii U version includes new features like the ability to save on the fly and play the game on the Wii U GamePad. The game is currently selling for $4.99, unless you already own it for the Wii, then the upgrade will only cost you $1.00.

It’s worth having your game on the Wii U interface to avoid having to switch to Wii mode. Otherwise, the game remains untouched and just as good as it ever was. If you haven’t already played the original Legend of Zelda, you are missing out on an amazing experience.

You can get all the game details on Nintendo’s website.

Nintendo’s Secret Song and How to Hear It

by Richard Vincenti JrLeave a Comment

Who doesn’t love finding hidden things? In video games there are often many different hidden secrets within the content and sometimes these little gems are referred to a “Easter Eggs”.

Easter Egg

One unique secret is actually a song known as “Totaka’s Song”. This interesting little number was created by Kazumi Totaka, a video game the composer who has created music for titles such as Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.

The song, like any good secret, can be quite difficult to find. One of the easier ways to find the song is in the game Mario Paint where all you have to do to hear the special tune is click on the “O” when your at the title screen of the game.

Here is a list of known titles that contain this secret song:

  • Animal Forest (Japan) and Animal Crossing (World)
  • Animal Crossing: City Folk
  • Animal Crossing e-Reader cards (#P15, “Boy”, “Who’s Dunnit?”)
  • Animal Crossing: Wild World
  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf
  • Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru
  • The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and the DX version
  • Luigi’s Mansion
  • Mario Artist: Talent Studio
  • Mario Paint
  • Pikmin 2
  • Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
  • Virtual Boy Wario Land
  • X
  • X-Scape
