Blizzard Pushes Out Battle.net Desktop App Beta

We recently got a hold of Blizzard Entertainment’s Battle.net Desktop App Beta. The app is set to replace the “launcher” which came separately with each Blizzard title. The desktop app will keep each Blizzard title up-to-date, allow you to add game-time, and will also offer a place to catch up on the latest Blizzard news. The app has a nice clean look and will be much better then having separate software for each game.

In order to be eligible for beta software from Blizzard, you must opt-in through your battle.net account.

How to Fix Lag With Diablo III and More on Macbook Pro Retina

March 12, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Apple Logo

OS X Version 10.8.2 brought a few unwanted features to Macbook Pro Retina display owners. The main issue seems to be serious lag in many games, most notably Diablo III. Another issue  users were reporting seems to be the fan not running correctly, and that’s never good.

There’s Good News

Apple has released an update along side OS X 10.8.3 that corrects these issues. You can get more information on that update here. If your not interested in that update for some reason or are unable to update, you can follow the instructions below for a temporary fix, otherwise this issue should be resolved.

There’s a quick fix for this issue that will get your Macbook Pro Retina (MBPr) back to it’s peak performance in no time. All you should need to do is reset the System Management Controller (SMC). For the best instructions on how to do this I recommend just going straight to Apple’s documentation which you can find here.

*This should speed up everything, from Desktop UI to gaming!

*Be sure to follow the instructions specifically for your type of computer. In this case it seems that only the MBPr is having issues.

BlizzCon 2013 Official Date Set

February 23, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr 1 Comment

In case you missed it, BlizzCon is back and will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center Friday, November 8 and Saturday, November 9, 2013 in Anaheim, California. Hopefully you will be able to get tickets to go as they usually sell out in seconds. If you can’t be there you can always watch online for a small fee, something that I’m sure will be available this year as well.

The last BlizzCon (2011) was pretty awesome and they even closed out the show with the Foo Fighters! Can they top that this year? Who knows, but I’m hoping to hear more about project “Titan” and I’m  always just generally curious as to what Blizzard is going to be doing next. You know what would be really strange? A Blizzard FPS style game. That would be interesting; even more interesting would be if it was also brought to consoles. You can read the official press release for more details.

Jay Wilson Moves On From Diablo III

January 17, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Jay Wilson has been Game Director for Diablo III for seven years now and has done an amazing job. However, Jay will be leaving Diablo III behind as he moves on to other projects at Blizzard Entertainment. In a post on battle.net, Jay mentions that although he will no longer be working directly on Diablo III, it doesn’t mean that Diablo will be anything less than amazing. He continued on to say that Diablo isn’t the work of just one person and the team who created Diablo III will still continue to support the game.

“I recently celebrated my seven-year anniversary working on Diablo III, and while it’s been one of the most challenging and rewarding periods of my life, I’ve reached a point creatively where I’m looking forward to working on something new. The powers that be at Blizzard have been gracious enough to give me that opportunity. Over the course of the next several weeks, I will be moving off of the Diablo III project and transitioning elsewhere within Blizzard. This decision was not an easy one for me, and not one I made quickly, but ultimately it’s what I feel is right.”

Jay Wilson is an incredibly talented man with a passion for what he does and it really shows up in his work. Like many others that work at Blizzard, Jay consistently thanks the fans for their support and in his post about leaving Diablo III, he does just that.

If you haven’t watched any of his videos about the Diablo III development process I would encourage you to check them out. You can see an interview with Jay Wilson where he is discussing a bit about Diablo here.

The original post about him leaving the Diablo III team is on battle.net and can be found here.
