StarCrafts, A Creative and Hilarious Series

April 22, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

StarCrafts is an animated series of short skits on YouTube by Carbot Animations that is based on the popular RTS, StarCraft. The skits are every entertaining and the humor translates well even if you don’t play StarCraft, but it’s even better if you do.

Starcrafts

The characters are taken right from the game but they are artistically speaking, quite different, but in a good way. My personal favorite is the way they have drawn up zerglings and infestors, it’s just hilarious to look at them and how they act.

If you like the artwork in this series you can buy t-shirts and other clothing featuring StarCrafts at Swaging.

Antares Rocket Launch Successful

April 21, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

The Antares Rocket, which was built as a project between NASA and Orbital Sciences Corp, has made it’s first launch as it  successfully carried a “dummy” payload into space. Liftoff occurred at  5 p.m. EDT on Sunday April 21st from Wallops Island, Va.

One thing you will undoubtably notice in the video above is the rate of acceleration, it’s awfully slow, which is because of the low amount of thrust involved in this launch. As the rocket gains altitude it finally begins to break the sound barrier and make it’s way into space.

Today’s successful test flight of Orbital Sciences’ Antares rocket from the spaceport at Wallops Island, Virginia, demonstrates an additional private space-launch capability for the United States and lays the groundwork for the first Antares cargo mission to the International Space Station later this year. The growing potential of America’s commercial space industry and NASA’s use of public-private partnerships are central to President Obama’s strategy to ensure U.S. leadership in space exploration while pushing the bounds of scientific discovery and innovation in the 21st century. With NASA focusing on the challenging and exciting task of sending humans deeper into space than ever before, private companies will be crucial in taking the baton for American cargo and crew launches into low-Earth orbit. I congratulate Orbital Sciences and the NASA teams at Wallops, and look forward to more groundbreaking missions in the months and years ahead.” – White House Statement

How To Open Windows 8 Style Apps in Desktop Mode

April 20, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Windows 8 is unlike any other Windows OS we’ve seen and although the new “tile system” is pretty cool. The look and feel of full screen applications on Windows 8 are also a big departure from what we’re used to, but not everyone is enjoying it.

ModernMixSS

If you’re one of those people who have a few favorite apps that are exclusive to the new Windows 8 style UI (metro) and would much rather have them open up on the “classic desktop”  in a regular window, then you’re in luck.

There’s a great app from Stardock called ModernMix that does all of this for you and isn’t just a change of appearance either. These are fully functional windows that can be resized, pinned to the taskbar, and completely closed using the familiar “X” button.

Sounds simple enough, and if you’re not enjoying the new style of  Windows then this could be a perfect solution.

You can try it for free for a month and the application is only $4.99 to purchase.

How To Skip Activation on The Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Fascinate

April 19, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr 10 Comments

samsungGalaxyS3

Sometimes you find yourself wanting to use a phone for Wi-Fi, gaming only, or maybe you just need to access content on an old phone but you can’t seem to get past the activation screen.

There has to be a way to make an “un-activated” phone more useful. Well, there is, and it only requires a secret key press combination to get you past the activation screen.

Obviously, you will not have the “full” functionality of the phone, but at least you don’t have to use it as a paperweight.

For the Samsung Galaxy S3 press this key combination:

  • Bottom left corner
  • Bottom right corner
  • Bottom left corner
  • Bottom right corner
  • Volume up

* TIP: You should be on the language selection screen when entering the key combination.

For the Samsung Fascinate:

  • Enter the emergency dialer
  • Dial *#83786633
  • Press Send
  • Press Home Key

Hack Makes Chat Heads Persistent Throughout iOS

April 18, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Chat Heads was recently brought to iOS but it wasn’t quite the same as the Android version which allowed for the ‘Chat Heads’ to be visible even when the Facebook app isn’t open. Facebook mentioned that they couldn’t do the same for iOS due to it being too locked down.

It didn’t take long though for someone to Jailbreak hack this thing apart and make it happen, well sort of. It’s a bit buggy at the moment but appears that having ‘Chat Heads’ be persistent throughout iOS is possible if you have a Jailbroken phone and the people at the Verge show us how.
