Featured App: Word Search Puzzles

July 26, 2013 by Karlene Leave a Comment

Word Search Puzzles is a free word search app that has tons of themes.

Each puzzle theme will change the words every time you play, so that you can go back to the same theme more then once. You will also be timed and rated so you can beat your scores by playing more. The app is free to play, but you have the option to buy more themes in game.

Best Buy Does iPad Trade in Deal

July 12, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

iPad4

You still have one day left (7-13-13) to head to Best Buy where they are offering $200 or more in trade-in value when you trade in your iPad 2 or 3rd generation iPad.  You can opt to receive the trade-in on a gift card or use it to buy a 4th generation iPad.If your tablet is in really good condition you can get even more money.

I would check online pricing for your iPad on Amazon and eBay just to be sure you’re getting your maximum value. You should also take the connivence of getting your cash immediately into consideration as well.

It’s likely that BestBuy is trying to clear out some of it’s inventory ahead of the release of the anticipated iPad 5 this fall.

Deus Ex: The Fall Doesn’t Like Jailbreaking

July 11, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Square Enix has apparently decided that jailbroken phones are a no-go. According to a Reddit post, Deus Ex: The Fall doesn’t allow players with jailbroken phones to fire their weapon. It’s likely that the developers are trying to prevent software piracy, which usually happens on jailbroken devices. The biggest issue here is likely going to be with those players who do not use pirated software and have other reasons for jailbreaking their phones.

Given Apple’s willingness lately to open up iOS a bit more to developers, we can only hope that jailbreaking becomes less necessary for some users. I’ll be keeping tabs on this block to see if people actually find a work-around, otherwise you’ll have to have a fresh, un-jailbroken version of iOS installed to play this game.

Possible Images and Video of Low Cost iPhone

July 6, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

There has been a lot of speculation as to whether or not Apple will be announcing a lower cost iPhone made from mostly plastic. Many “leaks” have been showing up recently and now it seems we are getting a real good look at what might be coming this fall as Techdy claims to have the real outer shell of the highly rumored and much anticipated phone.

Techdy believes that the outer parts of the phone are indeed a polycarbonate material and that it has a 4″ screen just like the current iPhone. Techdy has even put together a little video showing of the shell.

Whether or not this is real, it definitely looks like something Apple would put together but it could also be just a cheap replica of the current iPhone that’s meant to run some obscure OS.  I’m not really sure what Apple has in store for a lower cost iPhone but I do hope they create one. It will be interesting to see how they price the phone and how it will compete against other more economical phone solutions.

Flush DNS Cache on Mac OS X

July 4, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr 5 Comments

When you enter a web address into your webrowser like “geekwithenvy.com”, the DNS (Domain Name System) changes that user-friendly name into an IP address that computers can more easily understand. Your computer doesn’t need to do this every single time you visit a website because it stores the IP addresses for many sites on your computer for a short period of time. This information is stored in what’s called the DNS cache.representations of servers to show Clear DNS Cache

Unfortunately, this stored information may become corrupt or just end up being incorrect due to changes that occur on the site’s server. If your DNS cache has incorrect IP information then you won’t be able to access the site your trying to get to because it’s looking for the website in the wrong place.

There is a quick solution to correcting your DNS cache issues and that is to force it to ask the DNS what the new IP information is. You can do this by clearing the DNS cache or “Flushing” your DNS cache.

Launch Terminal and enter the commands below to flush your DNS Cache:

Mac OS X Lion and Mountain Lion (10.7 /10.8)

  • sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

Mac OS X (10.5 and 10.6)

  • dscacheutil -flushcache

If you happen to be running OS X Mavericks (10.9) you will want to do this two step command:

  • dscacheutil -flushcache;sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

Mac OS X Yosemite (10.10)

(Please note: The the following command will clear your DNS Cache but there is no official confirmation from the terminal when entered.

  • sudo discoveryutil mdnsflushcache
  • sudo discoveryutil udnsflushcaches

Mac OS X Yosemite (10.10.4 and Up) use this instead:

  • dscacheutil -flushcache;sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

That should cover it for DNS cache issues. If you are still having problems you can always reboot your machine, this should resolve any DNS inaccuracies on your computer.
