Valve’s Official Steam Machine Hardware Specs

October 4, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

SteamLogo

If you’re not already aware, Valve is creating it’s own hardware to run Steam to try and create the ultimate gaming experience.

This hardware is just a prototype and the final product isn’t due until 2014, but 300 lucky Steam users will get to beta test the system sometime this year.  Currently, there are no images of the prototype hardware but in a recent post from the company they have provided us with some pretty serious specs.

Here are the specifications for Valve’s 300 prototypes:

  • The 300 prototype units will ship with the following components:
  • GPU: some units with NVidia Titan, some GTX780, some GTX760, and some GTX660
  • CPU: some boxes with Intel i7-4770, some i5-4570, and some i3
  • RAM: 16GB DDR3-1600 (CPU), 3GB GDDR5 (GPU)
  • Storage: 1TB/8GB Hybrid SSHD
  • Power Supply: Internal 450w 80Plus Gold
  • Dimensions: approx. 12 x 12.4 x 2.9 in high

As a hardware platform, the Steam ecosystem will change over time, so any upgrades will be at each user’s discretion. In the future we’ll talk about how Steam will help customers understand the differences between machines, hardware strengths and weaknesses, and upgrade decisions.

We aren’t quite ready to post a picture of our prototype – just because they’re not finished enough. Before they ship we’ll let you know what the prototype looks like. And we expect people to redesign the machine, too. Both from a technical perspective, deciding on different components, and from an industrial design perspective, changing the enclosure in interesting ways.”

Warcraft Movie Release Date Set December 18, 2015

October 2, 2013 by Karlene 1 Comment

Blizzard Entertainment has announced yesterday, October 1st, in a tweet, the official release date for their movie Warcraft. The film was first announced at E3 back in 2006.

We’re pleased to announce that @Legendary Pictures’ WARCRAFT will be released by @UniversalPics on December 18, 2015.

— World of Warcraft (@Warcraft) October 1, 2013

The film is being directed by Duncan Jones, and is rumored to feature actor Colin Farrell. Spider-Man director Sam Raimi was at one point involved, though he would later drop out, claiming Blizzard “mismanaged” the film. It is believed to have a budget that exceeds $100 million.

The plot is largely unknown, but there have been past reports that tell us it could have “time travel and alien worlds”. Production on the film will begin in January. Some are excited and others think this is a huge mistake. Guess we will just have to wait and find out.

Star Wars Lightsaber Thumb Wrestling

September 23, 2013 by Karlene Leave a Comment

ThinkGeek.com is an online store with all kinds of awesome geek stuff. On sale now, is a Star Wars Lightsaber Thumb Wrestling book.

I think this is a pretty fun idea and the cost is very reasonable. No need for boring “old school” thumb wars, this makes it way more exciting.

Thumb War

ThinkGeek says:

May the thumb be with you.

One, two, three, four – we declare thumb war. Remember? And then you’d mash each other’s thumbs or flick your pointer finger out yelling, “Secret Weapon!!” and getting everyone all mad? That’s how you used to thumb wrestle, but that’s not how they did it long, long ago and all that. How’d they do it? With lightsabers, silly. And now you can, too, with Star Wars Lightsaber Thumb Wrestling.

Star Wars Lightsaber Thumb Wrestling – a game-in-a-book – provides hours of fun for thumb wrestling masters or their padawans. Each duelist attaches a saber to their thumb with Velcro and elastic. Then, just decide on the arena (featuring prominent dueling locations from all 6 Star Wars movies), slide your thumbs in, and have at it. Star Wars Lightsaber Thumb Wrestling is silly fun that will make a childhood game come alive again – with the power of lightsabers.

Please Note: These thumbsabers have no cutting properties and will not Ponda Baba-ize any of your digits. Just so you don’t worry.

Star Wars Lightsaber Thumb Wrestling

  • Add a dash of Star Wars to your normal thumb wrestling tournaments.
  • Velcro on these mini sabers and digit duel in a more civilized manner.
  • Durable card game board/book features 7 different arenas spanning all 6 movies.
  • Book even holds the sabers for easy travel.
  • Includes: One book and two sabers (Luke and Vader).
  • Saber Dimensions: approx. 4″ long (fits most thumbs).
 You can buy yours here!

First Person Goomba (Video)

September 22, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Since the early days of Super Mario Bros we have been squashing Goombas with out any consideration as to what their story is. In this awesome video from pipocaVFX, we see life from a Goomba’s perspective and Mario doesn’t quite seem like the “superhero” we are used to.
