New Video and Cinema Features on Instagram

June 20, 2013 by Karlene Leave a Comment

June 20, 2013, Instagram announced that video will now be added to the app, along with something they call Cinema. So many of us love taking pictures and sharing it on Instagram, and now we are able to record short video to share as well.

Cinema is a video stabilizing feature that was made with the help of leading Video Scientists to avoid the shakiness we all know. They demonstrated with a few clips on how running can ruin a video, but with Cinema, you can stabilize it as if it was professionally made.

Instagram is free on the App Store, Google Play, and Instagram.com.

Featured App: Whims

April 16, 2013 by Karlene 2 Comments

Whims is a social media app similar to Instagram, except instead of photos, you create text.

Whims Detail

You start off by signing up and making a profile. Then you pick a style sheet, they give you so many to choose from. A style sheet has a theme based on people, such as Harry Potter style. There are two types of font in that style and three color options. You can choose which specific words you want to change to the second font choice, if at all. Other options are, alignment, text size and text spacing.

Afterwards when you click “create” there is another option called “add texture”, this will give your background a different look. You can choose from no filter, crumpled, rust, stationary, vintage, water spill, and notes. These can be layered all together and the more you click, the more intense the texture becomes.

Once you have perfected your design, you can add a comment or tags and share on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, text message, and email. This will post to the Whims page, but there is an option to save as a “Private Whim” which will only save the image to your phone.

I love this app because it has so many beautiful styles for free, unlike other apps that make you pay for packages and different fonts.

Featured App: InstaQuote

March 27, 2013 by Karlene Leave a Comment

As most of us know, Instagram is a great app thats allows you to create and share your photos with people around the world. It has some filters and borders, but thats about all the editing you can do with it. Lately I have seen many add-on apps that work with Instagram to enhance its use and creativity. The one I recently found, is InstaQuote.

InstaQuote

With InstaQuote, you can add text to your photos, and share your favorite quotes or song lyrics. There are options to change fonts, backgrounds, and colors.

I love this app and it’s very easy to use. I tried a few others like it, but this one was by far the best.

This version is free, but there is an option to upgrade to InstaQuotePro for $1.99, which has more fonts and backgrounds for you to choose from.

Instagram Selling Your Photos

December 18, 2012 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Everyone seems to be just a little worried about the recent changes to Instagram’s terms of service. One of the concerned users of Instagram included National Geographic, who stated that they will be suspending new posts due to concern with the new terms of service and that they may close their account. So what the heck is all the fuss about?

Terms of service often include language that is difficult to interpret but it would seem that an update to Instagram’s new TOS included some language that involves using your username, location and photos for advertising purposes, and of course without having to tell you or pay you. Here’s the controversial section of the TOS.Instagram logo

“Some or all of the Service may be supported by advertising revenue. To help us deliver interesting paid or sponsored content or promotions, you agree that a business or other entity may pay us to display your username, likeness, photos (along with any associated metadata), and/or actions you take, in connection with paid or sponsored content or promotions, without any compensation to you. If you are under the age of eighteen (18), or under any other applicable age of majority, you represent that at least one of your parents or legal guardians has also agreed to this provision (and the use of your name, likeness, username, and/or photos (along with any associated metadata)) on your behalf.”

So, is this actually going to happen? Well, not really. Due to the big reaction to the upcoming changes, Kevin Systrom (co-founder of Instagram) has tried to calm everyone down by telling us that they’re not trying to sell our photos for profit. It would seem that Instagram will still be using our content along side advertisements, which really isn’t all that bad. A free service needs to make money somehow and by selling ads they can use our data to help them figure out what we like and what you and our friends would most likely be interested in. If this all sounds familiar it’s because Facebook does the exact same thing. Also, remember that Facebook and Instagram are family now.

Are you concerned about these changes? You can read the official post about Instagram’s TOS changes on their website.
