Whims is a social media app similar to Instagram, except instead of photos, you create text.

You start off by signing up and making a profile. Then you pick a style sheet, they give you so many to choose from. A style sheet has a theme based on people, such as Harry Potter style. There are two types of font in that style and three color options. You can choose which specific words you want to change to the second font choice, if at all. Other options are, alignment, text size and text spacing.

Afterwards when you click “create” there is another option called “add texture”, this will give your background a different look. You can choose from no filter, crumpled, rust, stationary, vintage, water spill, and notes. These can be layered all together and the more you click, the more intense the texture becomes.

Once you have perfected your design, you can add a comment or tags and share on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, text message, and email. This will post to the Whims page, but there is an option to save as a “Private Whim” which will only save the image to your phone.

I love this app because it has so many beautiful styles for free, unlike other apps that make you pay for packages and different fonts.

How To Put Your iPhone in Field Test Mode

Field Test mode can be handy if you’re knowledgeable about cell phone technology but it can also help you get a clearer picture of what your cell phone reception is like in a given area or perhaps you’re just somebody who just likes to tinker with things, either way here’s how it’s done.

If you’re iPhone has a recent version of iOS on it (4.1 and up), which covers most phones, then you should be able to access the Field Test Mode with most carriers.

To Access Field Test Mode:

Dial *3001#12345#* 

This will allow you to look at lot’s of otherwise hidden information about your phone and it’s connection to the network. For the average user, the most notable feature is the ability to look at your overall connection to the network.

The number is in dBm and is much more precise than just looking at a set of bars. As a general guideline anything below -100 is starting to get pretty bad, the lower the number the better and -35 or -40 is about as good as it gets.

As most of us know, Instagram is a great app thats allows you to create and share your photos with people around the world. It has some filters and borders, but thats about all the editing you can do with it. Lately I have seen many add-on apps that work with Instagram to enhance its use and creativity. The one I recently found, is InstaQuote.

With InstaQuote, you can add text to your photos, and share your favorite quotes or song lyrics. There are options to change fonts, backgrounds, and colors.

I love this app and it’s very easy to use. I tried a few others like it, but this one was by far the best.

This version is free, but there is an option to upgrade to InstaQuotePro for $1.99, which has more fonts and backgrounds for you to choose from.

Featured App: Candy Crush

Candy Crush is a bejeweled-like game mixed with Candy Land where you have to match three or more like candies to break them away. You can get boosters by matching four or five. Four, you get a striped candy that can destroy a whole row, and five, a doughnut that will get rid of all of one color on the screen.

There are 125 levels with cute little short stories as you play through. This game is very addictive and the music is catchy. As the levels go up in number they get harder and harder to beat. You have 5 turns to lose with or else you must wait for a timer to regenerate turns. You can add friends from Facebook and ask them for help and turns. You will also need friends to help you move on to new stories. The game will prompt you that you need three friends to give you tickets to get across to the new levels.

The only thing I don’t enjoy in this game, is I feel like I am being forced to purchase (with real money) boosters for the levels. Some levels I have played numerous times and it seems impossible without them. I have not purchased anything in this game, and I have moved along slowly. Some go faster and there are ones that I am stuck on forever, but it’s just the luck of the board I guess. Either way, I still play it, and it’s still pretty fun.
