Oracle VirtualBox Error Windows 98 / SE EXPLORER caused an Exception 6d007eH and SHELL32.DLL Error

May 19, 2024 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

If you are trying to install Windows 98 / SE on Oracle Virtual Box but are getting stuck with a message telling you, “This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.” then we have a possible fix for you!

The error is, “Explorer has caused an Exception 6d007eH and Shell32.DLL”. Without getting overly complicated and trying to get to the fix quickly, the problem is mainly 32-bit protected mode disk drivers.

The “fix”, or more accurately, the workaround is:

  1. Reboot the VM once this error occurs during installation
  2. Press F8 before Windows 98 / SE setup continues
  3. Skip or wait for Scandisk to finish if it loads
  4. Enter “Safe Mode” <This can sometimes take awhile for safe mode to boot>
  5. Once in Safe Mode, right click “My Computer”
  6. Select “Properties”
  7. Select “Performance”
  8. Select “File System”
  9. Select “Troubleshooting”
  10. Put a check next to “Disable all 32-bit protected-mode disk drivers”
  11. Click “Apply”
  12. Close the dialog box and restart the VM

Allow Windows 98 / SE to continue setup as it normally would and this time it should complete the install.

Screenshots of the Process are below:

Enter Safe Mode
Once in Safe Mode, right click “My Computer”
Select “Properties”
Select “Performance”
Select “File System”
Select “Troubleshooting”
Put a check next to “Disable all 32-bit protected-mode disk drivers”
Reboot and complete setup.

How To Install Telnet on Windows 8 and 8.1

November 5, 2014 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Telnet is a very useful text-based tool for those who need to access other computers and devices on a network and manage them accordingly. However, many Windows 8 users have tried to run the program only to find it’s not there.  Instead, users are met with an error message stating, ‘not recognized as an internal or external command’.

There’s no need to worry as this application is available in Windows 8 but it does need to be installed and enabled.

To install Telnet on Windows 8 / 8.1,

  • Open the Control Panel
  • In the top right corner of the menu change the “View by” option to “Programs“.
  • Under Programs and Features select “Turn Windows features on or off“
  • In the dialog box that pops up, look for “Telnet Client” in the list and then put a check next to it.
  • Press “OK” and the installation of the client will begin.
  • Now you can use the command just as you did before!

Xbox One Suffers Disc Drive Issues, May Get Free Game

November 29, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

XboxOneVideoDemo

Unfortunately, it happens all too often, early adopters run out and grab the latest and greatest, whether it’s software or hardware, only to find that you’re likely to run into issues sooner or later. The Xbox One is no different as some users have been reporting disc drive failures that prevent any disc based game from playing. The defective units have been reported to make a nasty grinding noise when a disc is inserted into the system.

The feeling of disappointment and possibly rage can build up quick when this kind of stuff happens but there’s no need to freak out just yet as Microsoft has said that they will be offering Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse, Zoo Tycoon, or Dead Rising as a FREE digital download, but only to those users who are having problems specifically related to the disc drive failing. In addition to this, and most importantly, Microsoft is also working with these affected customers to ensure that they get new and fully functional consoles.

Microsoft isn’t the only one feeling hardware launch pain as Sony’s Playstation 4 has also suffered from some issues of it’s own including major slowdowns to it’s Playstation Network service and some consoles arriving completely dead out of the box. The hope is here that even though all of these aforementioned issues on both consoles are only causing a very small percentage of users to have headaches, that both Sony and Microsoft step-up and take care of the issues they are having as quickly as possible, and most importantly, take care of their customers by offering them good customer service for their hard earned money.
