Samsung confirmed that it will be getting into the wearable technology game when Samsung’s executive vice president of mobile business, Lee Younghee, had an exclusive interview with The Korea Times and discussed a few details about the upcoming smartwatch. Lee said that the concept name for the device is called Galaxy Gear.

According to Lee, the purpose of Galaxy Gear will be to enhance their current mobile experience and that  “Gear will add meaningful momentum to the mobile industry”.  In response to questions about a possible flexible display Lee mentions that it will not be flexible but that Samsung does hold various patents for a flexible display which would most definitely be using in future products.

There has been no shortage of speculation surrounding the possibility of an Apple iWatch to come in the near future and Samsung seems to be trying to beat them to the market. Apple has hired some notable people from the fashion industry which hints towards their intentions to get into wearable tech as well. Many people expected Apple to discuss it’s plans for an iWatch product earlier this year at the 2013 WWDC, but it seems that we may have our best chance to hear something this fall.

White Xbox One for Employees

Rumored Employee Only White Xbox One (Click for Larger Image)

There has been some buzz going around the internet about an all white Xbox One console that will be exclusively for Microsoft employees. We haven’t seen any pictures of the mythical white Xbox until now. The picture we stumbled upon was sourced back to Reddit and as near as we can tell, it looks to be legit. It’s also rumored that on the disc drive of the console “I Made This” is engraved on it.

Of course there’s no real way to know until the console comes out or if Microsoft confirms it but I sure hope that this becomes an option that the rest of us can purchase at a later date. This is by far the best version of the next-gen console I’ve seen, at least in my opinion.

Watch a Rocket Launch Headed Toward Moon

On September 6, 2013 at the Wallops Flight Facility (WFF) in Virginia, the Minotaur V rocket will launch NASA’s Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment (LADEE) into a lunar transfer orbit. The rocket will take LADEE in a highly elliptical orbit around the Earth that will continue for 23 days.

During that time period the spacecraft will orbit the Earth 3.5 times, as time progresses the Moon’s gravitational field will increase the perigee of the orbit and the spacecraft will fire its thrusters to enter an orbit around the Moon. LADEE is on a 100 day mission to examine the atmosphere of the Moon from 50km above its surface.

The targeted launch window is on September 6, 2013 from 11:27 – 11:31 PM EDT. The map above shows the locations at which you will likely be able to see the launch. As you get further from the launch site, the rocket will appear lower and lower on the horizon and anything below 5º will likely be too low to see. For more information on this project and a link to a Google Earth (KMZ) file to help you find out where to see the launch, head to Orbital’s mission update page.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer to Step Down

August 23, 2013 by Richard Vincenti Jr Leave a Comment

Steve Ballmer

Steve Ballmer (57) has announced that he will be stepping down as CEO of Microsoft within the next twelve months. Steve Ballmer has been CEO of Microsoft since 2000, he filled the position after Bill Gates stepped down.

Although Microsoft has remained quite strong under Ballmer it seems that lately the software giant has been struggling with it’s identity. This change up could shake things up enough to push the company forward towards future innovation and hopefully we will see some strong results.

“There is never a perfect time for this type of transition, but now is the right time,” Ballmer said. “We have embarked on a new strategy with a new organization and we have an amazing Senior Leadership Team. My original thoughts on timing would have had my retirement happen in the middle of our company’s transformation to a devices and services company. We need a CEO who will be here longer term for this new direction.”

Steve has always been extremely passionate about Microsoft, as is evident in many of his early promotional videos and appearances for the company. I highly recommend you check out this video.
